Alarms before sunrise, queues before the shutters lifted, and cheers when the doors opened. Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max went on sale in India on Friday, with some buyers arriving several hours before stores opened in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Noida. The regular iPhone 18 isn’t out yet. This frenzy is all about the Pro models.
And what a show it is. There’s a 48MP camera with variable aperture, the A20 Pro chip, and a fresh burgundy finish. Social media exploded with unboxing videos and memes about the price tags. The phones start at ₹1,64,900 for the Pro and ₹1,79,900 for the Pro Max. Yet Counterpoint Research says early demand is up 15 to 28 percent from last year. Clearly, India loves its iPhones.
Now, a small reality check.
Launch offers like bank cashback and no-cost EMI make a ₹1.65 lakh phone feel painless. “Just ₹X a month!” sounds so easy. But an EMI is still a debt, and it stays long after the launch-day excitement fades. Many people stretch their budgets just to be among the first to own the phone, and they feel that pressure every month.
Before you tap “Buy”:
1.Ask yourself whether you need it or just want to keep up with everyone else.
2.If you can’t afford the phone without EMI, consider waiting or choosing an older model.
3.Check for hidden processing fees on “no-cost” EMI.
4.Keep all your EMIs together under about 10 to 15 percent of your monthly income.
Upgrading from an iPhone 15 or older is a very different case from upgrading from last year’s phone.
Enjoy the buzz, watch the reviews, and cheer for the queues. But a great phone should make life easier, not stressful.
